| Saturday night in fragments: awaken the dawn, church, concert, God, Lord Jesus, Linkin Park, overwhelmed, prayers...
Was "invited" to a Christian Concert by a lecturer of mine. Being a non-Christian, my walking into a church for the first time was fraught with trepidation. I felt totally out of place, like a fish out of water, wondering how to behave. But since it was a Youth Concert, everything was very light-hearted, to my relief. How did it go? Well, I loved the music (a blend of soul, jazz, hip hop and rock) but the lyrics were a tad overwhelming for me.
In between the concert, the pastor gave a discourse on King David (from what I could glean from his little "speech", I think David is a character from the bible). The pastor was a real sport; he made what could have been a sleeping-pill into something that was truly enjoyable. Believe it or not, he even gave a rendition of Linkin Park's Somewhere I Belong; how cool is that?
At the end of the day, I do have some questions though. Pardon my ignorance, but do all Christians refer to Jesus as their God? (It was sung that way throughout the concert and alluded as well in the prayers). From what I've read somewhere, it's wrong to worship one other than God Himself, isn't it? And is it true that all non-believers of Jesus are would-be residents of "The Lake of Fire" and only the believers are Heaven-bound? (I read that from the tracts my lecturer "kindly" lent me in the hope that I would... you-know-what) Well, if that's the case, what about followers of other religion? That's a bit presumptuous, don't you think? Again, pardon my ignorance. Enlighten me, please, someone? |
