I was never indoctrinated in any religion when I was growing up. I went to the church for the first time 5 years ago and have not returned since. For someone who doesn't lean towards any religions because of their tendency to indulge in superstitions, I believe in karma.
Yes, I'm a hypocrite but I truly believe that you reap what you sow. As with all religious furore, my belief started when I was quite young and strengthened over the years by seeing what I wanted to see. You see, when one of my temporary teeth dropped, some kid at school made fun of the unsightly gap and the following day, he came to school with his front tooth gone; instant karma! There had been similar instances when meanies received their comeuppance.
I'm a hypocrite. Because of my belief, I do good to avoid bad things from happening; how is that different from being pious out of fear for hell? Truth be told, I've secretly sniggered at someone who believes in "The Lake of Fire". Now, I live life being good even when I don't want to in fear of retribution. One word comes to mind: karma.
