Ka-ching!

1/3200s | f5.6 | 27mm | Anti-war protesters in front of the Parliament. Taken last September.
V for Vendetta is less of a super hero flick than a politically-charged film. In fact, the super hero element made it less of a great movie. The premise of the film harks back to Nineteen Eighty-four, our perennial favourite book to quote when conversations lead to dystopian fictions.

It's London, in the not so distant future. A major viral outbreak has eased the ascension of a deeply religious politician and helped put a totalitarian government in place. But plans are in motion to free the nation from the Orwellian government. They involve killing high-ranking party members and end with the Parliament being blown up. This is where V begs the question: Where is the line drawn between a terrorist and a freedom fighter?

Awestruck is the word to describe my first seeing Big Ben (see how pretty it is!). Watching it being blown up on screen brought a pang of loss and grief. I can see V's rationale behind lighting up the grand building with explosives but can't he have settled for Buckingham Palace instead? Nontheless, I love the film.
