Ka-ching!

September 21, 2005, Wednesday

My first day in London and it was one of those rare fine days too! The weather was great and the sky was clear blue. This here is a shot from Hyde Park.

Turned out I didn't enjoy the long-haul flight at all. I'm not claustrophobic, but I would really make it a point to get at least business class seats next time I fly. Hmm, that is if I could get the money for that kind of luxury.

Speaking of money, my quids are depleting fast. Getting connection in my room alone cost me a whooping 95 pounds. That's around RM645. Yeap, the exchange rate between the Malaysian ringgit and British pound is killing me; I'm trying hard not to do multiplication in my head every time I need to part with 2 pounds for a Big Mac.

Otherwise, I'm starting to get used to staying in London. There are things I can do here but not in Malaysia. For one, I can walk under the bright sun and not sweat at all. Not sweating that much is good because it means less money spent on laundry. For another, I can sit on the grass and not have insects crawling over me; had my lunch with some friends while sitting on the grass the other day.

Then again, there are some things which I cannot do. For starters, I cannot shower without hot water; I'll most probably freeze to death. And I cannot just sit back and expect dinner to be served; I've to chip in and cook now.

Everything's fun though; this is like the first big adventure for me! If you're a Londoner, I wouldn't mind some tips as to where the good places are to go for groceries, movies (can't live without them!) and things like that. I'm in the Angel (tube station) area, so yeah, any recommendations will be great!
