The past week had been rather entertaining. Downloaded Maven; it's this cool program which downloads short quasi-DVD quality movies from Atom Films automatically whenever you're connected to cyberspace. It works more or less like a P2P software, only that it's completely legal and you don't have to do the searching yourself. It downloads from a central source (I think; so it isn't really P2P, but let's not get technical here) using your idle broadband connection.

Speaking of which, you do need a broadband connection and at least 1 GB set aside for the short films. The short films are quality stuff; the best I've watched thus far is In God We Trust. In case you're still riding on dial-up and do not have a gig to spare, fret not! Most of the movies are available on Atom Films, including In God We Trust (follow the link), but they're compressed and hardly DVD-like. Watchable nontheless.

Watching Ferhad performed live at the Ikano Merdeka Celebration was nothing short of entertaining too. That's him in the photo above. The shot was a fluke really. Ferhad, being the bubbly fellow he is, strutted and moved around the stage non-stop. I was standing in the midst of the crowd, a good 30 meters away, trying to get a clear shot. The lack of lighting didn't help much either. The shot above was the result of numerous tries, patience and lots of luck. As claimed on his site, Ferhad is "truly a live entertainer"; he cracked jokes throughout his gig and bonded well with the audience.

I'm glad to say that Puteri Gunung Ledang, the most expensive Malysian made movie to date, is entertaining. It's draggy and most of the scenes don't make sense, but it's not that bad considering it costs a mere RM16 million. I assure you, the boring bits are more than made up in the endless laugh-out-loud moments. Smartass can attest to that; he was laughing throughout the whole movie, triggering similar laughter spasms from yours truly. Problem was, we weren't really supposed to laugh most of the time. Some of the scenes do have unintentional comedic effect and are weird bordering on being lame. That aside, would really recommend you guys watching the film in the cineplex or if you don't want to spend a bladder-punishing 2 hours and half in the theater, buying the original DVD when it comes out would help too. C'mon, this film is a great improvement from previous local film-making efforts and it's going to set a precedent. Those who want to ace in their Bahasa Malaysia SPM examinations should not pass up the chance of watching PGL too; the BM they use in the movie would make any BM teacher beam with pride and earn you that A.

So that you know, my Portfolio is now up; the animations are online now, at least. I'll work on the rest soon. Hope you'll be entertained.
