Accomplished a feat not many have done in their lifetime. 28 August will go down the annals as the day I travelled around KL in (almost) 8 hours (on foot). Figured that since it was Saturday and I've a long weekend ahead, I went on a photo-taking excursion and visited the usual touristy spots in KL.
Touristy Spot #1: Dataran Merdeka | Time: 10AM
Had wanted to snap photos of gigantic Malaysian flag on top of giant pole but the sky was cloudy grey instead of refreshing blue; there goes Flag-Against-Clear-Blue-Sky photo I intended to put up on Merdeka Day. Well worth the trip anyway since I got to watch rehearsals for the Big day. The photo above was taken at the musuem right next to the Dataran, just so that you know.
Touristy Spot #2: Central Market (Pasar Seni)
I've never stepped into this place despite the fact that I pass it enroute to Pudu bus station almost everytime when I'm going back Home. The air-conditioning was a great welcome after walking a good 2Km from Dataran Merdeka.
Touristy Spot #3: Petaling Street
There's no place on Earth where people are more aware of Men's Needs (in Arundhati Roy's words) than in Petaling Street. Not that I've a prudish dislike (lest you guys think I'm a goody-goody) for, uhm, "arousing art films", but DVD peddlers of the aforementioned movies should have at least some discretion as to when and whom they should ply their "goodies". Those who don't have a good enough imagination and fan of, uhm, "inexpensive" Louis Vuitton bags would find Heaven at Petaling Street.
Touristy Spot #4: Berjaya Times Square
I still think Times Square is too huge for its own good; too many floors and less than satisfactory directory conspire to make the search for a particular store somewhat akined to finding a needle in the haystack. Fueled up on Pasta and some really nice mushroom soup over here and continued to next destination.
Touristy Spot #5: Bintang Walk
A short distance from Times Square. Not much new to see around here since it's the only place (not one of the swanky hotels but the rather run-down KL Plaza) Family stay on occasions when we're in KL.
Touristy Spot #6: KLCC
Encouraged by the fact that I was wearing a new pair of sneakers, I decided to walk from Bintang Walk to KLCC. Those familiar with the route would know that it's a good distance away. By the time I reached KLCC, my feet was aching terribly having walked non-stop since early morning. Decided to catch a movie as a respite from hurting feet but as always, the queue was long. Very. Went to the park instead and read TIME under a nice spot under the tree. Snapped a few photos and as was feeling a tad sleepy, decided to head back home. Time: 5:35 PM.
(Almost) 8 hours in total. Jules Verne would have been proud.
