I'm feeling extra hyper now (Hyper- adj. Slang: a)short for hyperactive; b)terribly excited c)a term coined by crazy people I call friends). Played several rounds of foosball (eat your heart out; we get to play "free" foosball at the hostel!), bounced the basketball and got it into the hoop a measly couple of times, and played badminton for a while before taking my bath and coming down to the computer lab to keep you abreast of what I'm up to (not that you would be interested).
All that despite the fact that I woke up at an ungodly hour (6am) for bloody IELTS which was supposed to be at 7:45am but started at 9 instead. Sure, Malaysians aren't exactly into punctuality; if it's stated clearly that one should arrive at this hour, some idiot would show up 30 minutes later. But really, what they're doing (expecting people to come at a much earlier time than is necessary) is going to worsen the whole thing; I mean people are going to have less faith in the given time and start arriving late. Knowing the kind of buggers who somehow are always entrusted the task of organising something, they'll most probably opt for a much earlier time just to make people arrive on time. And the cycle continues.
The same thing too with movie theaters; they would say that the movie starts at this and that time, but you actually have to sit through 15 minutes worth of Heineken and Carlsburg ads which, trusting the same kind of buggers they have up on top, are banned on television but allowed in cinemas. However on this particular occasion, I would be terribly pleased if the movie had started 20 minutes later from the stated time.
After IELTS, went to the theater with a bunch of friends, hoping to catch a movie. We arrived at 4:09pm and saw to our dismay (at least to my dismay as most of them wanted to watch The Village) that Collateral was showing in exactly one minute. Having plenty of experience watching movie at this particular cineplex, I was quite sure that the movie wouldn't start on time. So, Luke challenged me to a bet, that if the show had started when we got in, I would have to pay for dinner. Luke conveniently vanished into the men's (suspected that it was a ruse to make me lose the bet) just as a couple of friends (who had queued up when we were deciding what to watch) got us the tickets. So, I went in first on my own.
No, didn't win the bet; the movie was in motion for at least a minute (Luke, I still owe you dinner!) when I'd taken my seat. Luckily, no harm was done even though the film ran at several frame rates per second; we didn't miss much, so we could still make out the plot. Since I've written a rather long entry this far, I won't go into details; Collateral (they really should have named it Tom-inator) is a must-watch. Despite the fact that he was the baddie, Tom Cruise's character was way cool. Cruise was upstaged by Jamie Foxx's performance though, especially at the end of this thriller/drama flick.
Hey, I'm still feeling perky despite having written so much! Hmm, don't think I could get to sleep tonight. Term break starts tomorrow, fyi! Will be back home for the whole week, doing nothing but catch up on some casual reading. Was delighted to find Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things at college's library. Have been and still am on this quest to read all books that had won The Booker Prize (God of Small Things was the winner for the year 1997) and current favourites are Yann Martel's Life of Pi, J.M. Coetzee's Disgrace and Margaret Atwood's The Blind Assasin. Will post my two cents worth on God of Small Things later.
