Solar panels on Mt. Mat Chinchang
July 25, 2004, Sunday

Brother made a trip to 1 Utama so that I could pass him a couple of books. Showed him around 1U and brought him to RotiBoy, which I'd been telling him about. Watched I, Robot too.

I, Robot; it has all the hallmarks of The Matrix, even the storyline shares similarities. In a sense, it is The Matrix all rolled into one film. First half hour of the movie was like the first Matrix flick; intriguing and leaving the audience wanting more. Then, somewhere along, it began to feel a lot like reloading Matrix Reloaded; technical jargons and mind-boggling plot twists seeped in. It ended just like Matrix Revolutions; lots of loopholes and questions left unanswered.

It's interesting to note that Will Smith was supposed to be Neo in the aforementioned trilogy instead of Keanu Reeves (read this Wired interview). Funny that he should turn down the role which would have made him more memorable than that Spooner fellow in I, Robot.

In short, I, Robot is too pretentious a movie; it wanted to be smart but ended up insulting the intelligence of those who fell for the hype and dallied two hours watching it. That said, I should have kicked myself for not opting for King Arthur instead. Then again, am such a sucker for movies that show a glimpse of what the future would be like. Is there any wonder that my all-time favourite movie is Back To The Future?

Browsed through some photos earlier today and found the ones above (roll over to reveal another picture). One of them was taken by my brother (the one you see without rolling the mouse over the photo) while the other by yours truly. They were shot when we were at Mt. Mat Chinchang, Langkawi, last December. For more photos of our trip to Langkawi, see here, here and here. Am sure my brother would love to hear what you guys think of his shot; do leave a comment.
